I drive a lot. Just for pleasure. Sometimes I’ll get in the Cadillac and drive around the city or the country, kind of trying to get lost basically. Y’know, just see where roads lead. – Frank Black
Focus: Still Life
One of the great things about living in an older neighborhood is the wealth of mom-and-pop businesses within walking distance from home. Just a few blocks from my house is a great little garage that has probably been in existence since the 1940s. When the garage is open for business, the owner moves his old Cadillacs out into the parking lot to make room for the newer cars that have come in for service. At the end of the day, the Cadillacs are moved back inside for the night. That is the daily routine for these cars, and I don’t know if they ever get a chance to relive their youth out on the open roads anymore.
I decided to photograph this particular Cadillac in the late afternoon so that the shadows would play nicely off the car’s luscious lines. In post processing at I added a Retro color filter and a dreamy focus to add a sense of nostalgia.
