And they stood beneath the tree of hearts

And they watched their feelings grow

And they swore they’d never be apart.

True love left its mark on the tree of hearts

This amazing heart shaped knothole is nestled into a tree at Washington Park.  I discovered it when I was at the park doing my ‘shadow play’ series earlier in the month and I knew I wanted to go back and photograph it for Valentine’s Day.  I just love the curvy, free-form shape and the ripples and wrinkles that curl upon themselves like a cinnamon roll.  Simply beautiful!

  1. And it really is simply beautiful. I have seen many photographs of old injuries on trees, but I don’t believe I’ve ever seen one as interesting, intricate or lovely as this one. Glad you went back to photograph it and share it here. 🙂
