Dear Winter –  I’m breaking up with you….

Dear Winter,

I’m breaking up with you.  You’ve overstayed your welcome, and it’s time for you to leave.  Sure, we’ve had some good times.  Remember how much fun we had together skiing at Copper Mountain and Winter Park this year?  Or the time you made an unexpected appearance, and delighted my young niece who hadn’t seen snow in several years?  Yeah, those were the good ol’ days.  But then, you started acting strange.  At first it was just a random spring snow shower here or there.  No big deal – I know how you are about being the center of attention.  But, then you just wouldn’t stop.  First you teased me with the threat of a blizzard, and then you laughed as I ran around the yard protecting my spring flowers.  The blizzard never did arrive, so I bet you enjoyed that little game.  Now this past week, when I least expected it, you surprised me with 10″ of heavy, wet snow that crushed my newly sprung tulips.  They are now lying hopelessly broken in the garden.  I shudder to think what your latest storm probably did to the would-be blossoms on my crab apple tree.

Enough is enough.  As much as I have enjoyed our time together, I’m ready to move on to the warm embrace of spring.  I know spring can be finicky with its rain showers, thunderstorms and hay fever, but I’m willing to give it a try.  Besides, if spring doesn’t work out, I’ve heard that summer is pretty hot too.

So, until we meet again.  Goodbye, Sayonara, Adios, Arrivederci, Au Revoir and Good Riddance!
