What child is this, who, laid to rest,
On Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the son of Mary.

My husband and I were married at Christmastime, and one of my favorite wedding gifts was the Nativity scene given to us by my siblings.  The set is hand carved from wood with simple shapes and featureless faces.  Unpretentious and primitive in nature, it is the perfect representation of the humble beginnings on that very first Christmas.
