The manner of giving is worth more than the gift. ~ Pierre Corneille

FOCUS:  Digital Art

As part of the Kizuna Project that my daughter is participating in (see post on March 2), we welcomed a Japanese student into our home to spend a few days to experience ‘American life’.  A lovely part of the Japanese culture is the tradition of exchanging gifts when meeting someone.  Our student arrived bearing a suitcase full of Japanese snacks, candy, and toys which he presented to us on his first night in our home.  In return, we presented him with some souvenirs of Colorado depicting our state flag, our mountains, and the Denver area.  The exchange was a wonderful way to ‘break the ice’ and share a little bit of our cultures on the student’s first night at our home.

The photo above is just a sampling of the graphic packaging that dominates Japanese products.  I decided to apply a ‘weave’ technique to the photo to emphasize the playful overtones and vibrant colors.  You can download the weave .psd file at Mike W Photoshop Actions here.
