Sometimes in our confusion, we see the world not as it is, but through eyes blurred by the mind. – Unknown
FOCUS: Photo Technique (Scanned Images)
I decided to play around with my scanner again today. One characteristic of scanners is that they tend to have extremely shallow depths of field. Yesterday, I chose to lay flat objects directly on the scanner bed and the results were tack-sharp, highly detailed images. Today, I exploited the shallow DOF in the exact opposite direction by purposely placing the subject (me!) just outside the reach of the scanner’s focal range. The resulting ghost-like images are both beautiful and slightly disturbing. Their ethereal nature makes them appear to have been ripped right out of a dream.
