“I thought the most beautiful thing in the world must be shadow.”
― Sylvia Plath
After the frustrations of yesterday, when I felt as if my creativity was being stifled by others demands on me, I decided to take a little break today. So, I turned off my phone, stopped answering emails & instead gave myself a little space to breathe.
Quiet and solitude have always been my favorite elixir, and it didn’t take long for the spark of creativity to find its way back to me. Like an old friend it tapped me on the shoulder and invited me to sit a moment and simply observe. To let the wonder happen, and to turn that wonder into art.
“My soul, when I tend to it, is a far more expansive and fascinating source of guidance than my ego will ever be, because my soul desires only one thing: wonder. And since creativity is my most efficient pathway to wonder, I take refuge there, and it feeds my soul, and it quiets the hungry ghost—thereby saving me from the most dangerous aspect of myself.”
– Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic
