…being sick feels like you’re wearing someone else’s glasses.  – Megan Boyle

FOCUS:  Life Unscripted

Well the virus I’ve been battling for the past week finally caught up with me and I was down and out with a fever today.  Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, is reported to have said ‘Give me a fever and I can cure any ailment’, which is very sound advice.  Fevers are actually a sign that the body’s immune system is working just as it is suppose to.  As long as a fever isn’t too high, it usually best to just let the fever run its course rather than artificially suppressing it with medication.  The raised body temperature kills off viruses and bacteria and increases the amount of white blood cells in your system.  In the end, your body will heal faster and your immune system will be stronger.

So that’s what I did – I let the fever work its magic.  As such, the whole day is kind of a blur as I cycled between episodes of restless sleep and brief stretches of wakefulness spent staring at the light coming through the bedroom shutters.  Everyday objects appeared distorted and surreal.  At times I felt like Alice falling down the rabbit hole.
