The love of learning, the sequestered nooks, and all the sweet serenity of books.  – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Focus:  Technique (Shallow Depth of Field)

They say a book lover never goes to bed alone.  Well that is certainly true for me.  I love books and I cannot get to sleep at night unless I have spent at least a few minutes reading in bed.  Lately, I’ve been downloading books to my iPad and reading them that way.  While I appreciate the convenience of the new technology, there is no replacement for the weighty feel of a good novel in your hands – the texture of the paper, the way light from a lamp gives the pages a golden hue, even the crisp sound as you turn from one page to the next.  I sure hope that we never completely lose the sensory experience of reading a paper book.

For this photo, I purposely set my camera to a low aperture/shallow depth of field.   This way I could convey a sense of intimacy with the book, as if you were crawling between the pages and tucking in for a good story.
